Setting the Source for a Recording Session
A session can be set to record from two separate sources, or just one. Each source can be all Mac Audio output, the audio of a specific application, or from any audio device connected to your Mac.
If two sources are recorded each source will be saved to a separate channel in a single file.
Use the LivePreview button to listen to the source audio encoded at the settings you have chosen before you commit to the recording. To monitor the source audio at its original quality with no encoding, option-click on the LivePreview button.
To set the source for a WireTap Studio recording session:
- Go to the Window menu and select Recordings Sessions, or press command 2 to open the Recording Sessions window. Click on New to create a new session, or select an existing session and click on Edit.
- Click on the Source tab.
- Click on the Source One menu and set the primary source.
- If two sources are to be recorded, click on the Source Two menu and set the secondary source.
- Set the Record menu.
Everything - with this option chosen everything from the source will be recorded, including silence.
Auto Start/Stop - with this option chosen the session will begin recording when audio is detected from the source and stop recording when silence is detected.
Trim All Silence - with this option chosen no silence from the source will be recorded.
When the Record menu is set to any trim option the Configure button will become active. Click on it to specify an audio level for silence and how long the source should be at that level to qualify as silence.
- Click on OK to save the silence settings.
- Click on OK to save all of the session settings.
If one of the source menus is set to Line in or an input device, the Configure button will become active. Click on it to launch the Audio MIDI Setup utility. Use the Audio MIDI Setup utility to configure the input device.
